Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo welcomed the positive developments in the two countries’ relations, even during the COVID-19 pandemic, in the fields of politics, diplomacy,  trade and investment. Not only deploying many high-level contacts (with two bilateral visits and phone talks between the leaders of the two countries), Vietnam and Nigeria have made efforts to bring the trade turnover over 500 million USD and become important trade partners in the region.

Leaders of the two countries also agreed on specific orientations to promote in-depth and effective bilateral cooperation.

In terms of politics-diplomacy, the two sides reaffirmed the importance of enhancing delegation exchanges and contacts at all levels across all channels of the Government, the National Assembly, ministries, branches, localities and people-to-people exchanges. to strengthen political trust and create new impetus for economic cooperation. The two sides agreed to continue to closely coordinate and support each other at multilateral forums, especially the United Nations. Vietnam and Nigeria are willing to act as a bridge for each other to establish relations with regional organizations such as the Economic Community of West Africa (ECOWAS) and ASEAN.

Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo affirmed their determination to strengthen economic cooperation and increase bilateral trade turnover commensurate with Nigeria’s potential and market size of over 200 million people and nearly 100 million people of Vietnam. The Vice President asked Nigeria to create favorable conditions for market access for Vietnamese agricultural products, seafood and consumer goods.
